Một số động từ như ‘give’ và ‘show’, đều có tân ngữ trực tiếp và tân ngữ gián tiếp.
Trong câu: Peter gave me the letter.

me = indirect object (tôi = tân ngữ gián tiếp)
Tân ngữ gián tiếp có thể xuất hiện trước tân ngữ trực tiếp nếu không có giới từ, như ví dụ trên, hoặc đứng sau tân ngữ trực tiếp đi với ‘to’ hoặc ‘for’.
VD. Peter gave the letter to me.
