Chúng ta sử dụng thì quá khứ đơn để nói về sự kiện, hành động, v.v. đã xảy ra trong quá khứ.

Cả người nói và người nghe đều biết rõ hành động đã xảy ra khi nào.

VD. I went to London last week. (Tôi đã đến London tuần vừa rồi)

Viết lại theo thì quá khứ đơn:

1917	John F.Kennedy is born
1960	He becomes president of the United States of America
January 1961	He makes his first speech as president
1962	Opens a telephone ‘hot line’ between Washington and Moscow
