You add ‘s’ to form the plural of most nouns:
E.G. book — books table — tables
You add ‘es’ to nouns ending in ‘ss’, ‘s’, ‘ch’, ‘sh’, or ‘x’:
E.G. glass — glasses bus — buses
tax — taxes church — churches dish — dishes
You add ‘es’ to nouns ending in ‘o’:
E.G. tomato — tomatoes
But some nouns ending in ‘o’ take ‘s’ only for the plural.
E.G. piano — pianos photo — photos
Nouns ending in a consonant and ‘y’ in the singular end in ‘ies’ in the plural:
E.G. baby — babies
Nouns ending in a vowel and ‘y’ add an ‘s’:
E.G. day — days
